COVID-19 Updates

ESM  - Event Precaution Overview - Please see attachment at the bottom of this page for "on-site" event procedures

COVID-19 Update -  June 1 -
As we move to our Fall Creek Falls triathlons and run events Sat. Aug. 15 & Sun Aug. 16 the number of TN virus hospitalizations have continued to be at 20 or less per day state-wide through the majority of May. There have been a couple of 40's and a 60 but trend looks good. Both TN parks and officials at Fall Creek Falls have given the go ahead for our events - this could change but more and more positive data is bolstering having events. Please note these changes are planned to ensure social distancing and lower virus transfer probability:
1) "NO TOUCH" policy - we will take as many steps as possible to keep people 6 feet apart minimum throughout the weekend; no touch check-in (packets at marked racks; 2 bikes per side per rack); time trial starts with line being minimum 6 feet apart; volunteer gloves/masks with no touch water bottle exchange on bike & water/GatorAde bottles on run - at no time can volunteer touch what an athlete has touched; timing chips removed by athlete at finish & funneled to appropriate chute for finisher items to be picked up; awards available 30 minutes after finish to make sure time-trial start placement not affecting awards place; single serve post race food distributed by volunteers - NO ATHLETE TAKING to avoid germ transfer. 2) Pre-race information will be sent to all athletes beginning Aug. 1st - no morning briefing: Saturday events will begin with half iron @ 7 AM; Olympic @ 8 AM & Sprint @ 9 AM to spread out athletes - Sunday runs using CHIP START with half marathon beginning at 8 AM with groups of 10 to 25 athletes each 15 seconds; 10K @ 8:15 AM in similar fashion & 5K @ 8:30 AM same process 3) masks pre & post race may or may not be required & determined as event gets closer - our guess right now is just staff & volunteers but we will see. hand sanitizer, washing stations, etc. all places possible - we'll see what we can get for portable toilets i.e wipes, sanitizer - tip: own TP might be a good item to put in transition bag.

Again, it sounds like race organizers are jaw flapping our requirements & we are. We want to do everything we can to avoid any hint of virus transfer for your & our folks sake &.....the future ability to have group athletic events moving forward. Things can change in one heartbeat - as we have seen this past week. We need to be smart, be kind and our best in the interest of the positive group athletic experiences that we strive to return to our lives.

FYI - Race fee have been FROZEN at current levels until 2 days prior to each event or until each distance "sells out" @ 100 participants each. Three half iron BUNDLE @ $270 has also returned for 1st 25 entries or June 15th. Please see event details under each race page.

May 1 -
The Alabama Governor announced earlier this week that group events would be currently limited to 10 people. Due to these limitations, our our Goose Pond Half Iron & Sprint Triathlons in Scottsboro, AL are being re-scheduled / combined with the Frantic Frog Sprint Triathlon to be held Sunday, September 13th. Registered athletes have been contacted with options as follows: 1) auto transfer to new Sept. 2020 date, 2) move to any 2021 or 2022 ESM event of equal value, 3) donate fees to our Scottsboro 501C charities. Fees for new entries will be held at current levels through on-line registration & only increase for on-site registration.

As noted in our April 27th update, each municipality and locality is opening business back up based on local conditions. Loosening or tightening of restrictions will be based on local results & larger group events being one of the last activities to resume. Safety precautions will be part of opening group events with guidelines TBD. Expect similar guidelines to what you have been seeing with cleaning / disinfecting and social distancing. What does this mean for athletic events? We are thinking - mask required @ USAT events (like bike helmets); longer packet pickup periods with social distancing / no touch where possible / disinfecting - cleaning @ each interaction; 4 bikes per pole to spread athletes; time-trial triathlon / low volume run starts; results to internet / phone / text with awards presented at finish - i.e. no post-race gatherings; single serve post-race food items. Actions by race organizers MAY be mandated by local  /state authorities or sanctioning bodies providing insurance for events - Communication of these mandates / restrictions will occur as they are rolled out.

Additional Covid-19 updates will be made as limitations / restrictions affecting events are changed. Please be vigilant as we as individuals and businesses take responsibility to keep each other safe and well as we work through the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you for your continued support. Mon April 27
- Some counties and states are now issuing guidelines regarding PHASED OPENINGS that provide guidance on ATHLETIC EVENTS moving forward. The situations in each locality are still fluid & AL Governor mtg is set for tomorrow so please stay tuned for further Updates.

ESM will evaluate each areas limitations but early thoughts are as follows: Phase 1 = Month of May groups under 10 people, Phase 2 = Month of June groups up to 50 people, Phase 3 = July going forward groups up to 100 unless social distancing, cleaning, protection in place would mean most ATHLETIC EVENTS could get back starting July. Just a guess right now & given events can even get there hands on sanitizer, face masks, disinfectant, etc to hold events under new normal conditions. If these factors hold true for Scottsboro & Jackson County, AL, our Goose Pond Half Iron & Sprint Triathlons would be re-scheduled / combined with Sept. 12 Frantic Frog Triathlon. August 15 & 16 events @ Fall Creek Falls State Park would be ESM's first event under new guidelines. Detailed information of safety procedures for participants, volunteers, vendors and staff actions prior to and during events will be forthcoming to set parameters on how best we may move forward to getting events staged with a higher level of safety in place.

Sorry to ramble on but wanted to get info / though process out ASAP so people can try and plan. Questions or concerns: kevin@EnduranceSportsManagement.com - Be smart, be safe & take care of family & friends.

Update April 13, 2020:

We, like all of you, are very hopeful that we will soon be able to proceed with our scheduled and rescheduled events as planned. However, we recognize that the situation is fluid and we will continue to monitor the situation and take guidance from the CDC, and city, county and state health officials in each locality our events occur.

We have made the difficult decision to postpone the May 9th, 2020 Dickson Endurance and Iron Nugget Triathlons to May 8, 2021. Athletes registered have been informed via e-mail with options to defer or transfer to other Endurance Sports Management events.

With the uncertainty as to what guidelines will be in place once stay at home directives expire in early May, Endurance Sports Management is now reviewing possible fall date options should the Goose Pond Half Iron and Sprint Triathlons need to be postponed due to revised coronavirus guidelines. Please note that at this time we have no plans to postpone the May 24th races. The COVID-19 situation is constantly evolving and we wanted to have a back-up plan in place in case we need to postpone. Our decision date will be made after evaluating mandates and factors on May 1, 2020.

We are monitoring the coronavirus guidelines constantly and should guidance or conditions change relative to our upcoming events, we will communicate updates to our athletes as soon as possible via email, website, social media, and text messaging. Our next scheduled update is set for May 1st,

As with any challenging time, this situation will end! Now is the time for you to care for yourself, your family, and the less fortunate around you while cooperating with your local community to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Stay healthy and safe during this unprecedented time.
